CDL Manual Finder

Every state has its own commercial driver's handbook. This page links to the official state licensing agency where you can find it. The manual is the source your permit test is based on — start there before anything else.

In progress: Official CDL manual links are being verified state by state. State DMV website addresses can change. If a link is broken, search for "[your state] CDL manual" or "[your state] commercial driver's license handbook" to find the current page. Do not trust unofficial PDF copies — download directly from your state's official government site.

How to Use Your State Manual

1. Download and read it

Do not skim it. Read the sections you will be tested on. Highlight, take notes, and come back to it multiple times.

2. Focus on the right sections

For a Class A CDL, prioritize: General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combination Vehicles. Add endorsement sections if you need them.

3. Use practice tests after

Practice tests help you identify gaps after reading the manual — not as a replacement for reading it. Open practice tests →

4. Check the date

Make sure you are reading the current version of your state's handbook. Old versions sometimes float around on study sites.
