Dispatch Basics

How to communicate with dispatch without letting frustration run the truck.

You Are Still Responsible for the Truck

Dispatch can plan freight, but you are the one driving. You still have to watch time, weather, parking, customer rules, and whether something is safe.

Communicate Early and Clearly

Do not wait until you are already late to say there is a problem. Give useful information: where you are, what happened, what your ETA looks like, and what you need.

  • Confirm pickup and delivery times
  • Check pickup numbers and appointment notes
  • Ask for directions when customer access is unclear
  • Report delays early

Stay Professional

Dispatch can be annoying. Drivers can be annoying too. Getting emotional rarely fixes the load. Be direct, document what matters, and keep the truck moving safely.

Practical Takeaway

Good communication will not solve every dispatch problem, but poor communication will create new ones fast.
