This stage is for the question most people skip: should you do this at all?
Not “what’s the fastest CDL.” Not “how much can I make.” Those come later. First you need an honest picture of the work — the hours, the time away, the boredom, the weather, and the fact that pay varies a lot by company, freight, and how you get paid.
What this stage is for
- Weigh the lifestyle against your actual life, not a highlight reel.
- Learn the difference between local, regional, and over-the-road work.
- Spot hype: guaranteed pay, “be home every weekend,” and school ads that skip the contract.
What this stage is not
- A recruiting pitch.
- A promise that trucking will fix your money problems.
- Medical, legal, or licensing advice. Licensing rules come from your state DMV. Safety and hours rules come from FMCSA. Verify both.
