Quick verdict

The BougeRV CR 30QT is a 28-liter (30-quart) 12/24V compressor fridge that can also run on household power. For a solo driver, 30 quarts is enough for a few days of drinks, lunch meat, dairy and meal-prep containers, and it is small enough to strap to the passenger seat. Truck drivers in r/Truckers threads speak well of this style of fridge in general, and of the BougeRV 30-quart in particular. The risks are the ones owners keep repeating: reliability over years of truck vibration, and the unit’s thermostat behavior at freezer settings. Treat it as a good-value pick, not a forever purchase.

Price

  • $199.99 on BougeRV’s own store, marked down from a $269.99 regular price, in stock as of 2026-10-02 (bougerv.com). That is a promotional price.
  • A black version on the same store was $209.99 (regular $279.99) on 2026-10-02.
  • One r/Truckers poster said they paid about $250 on Amazon for a 30-quart unit (the thread excerpt didn’t state the exact model).

What owners report

Public ratings: BougeRV’s own store page showed 4.7 out of 5 across 759 ratings on 2026-10-02 (a self-run store, and the figure may cover variants). A 2024 blog review quoted 4.6 from 2,094 Amazon reviews at that time; we did not re-check Amazon.

Truck drivers: In an r/Truckers thread titled “BougeRV 30q freezer – two thumbs up!”, the original poster says it held 0°F on the truck’s 12V plug and drew little enough power that their inverter could still run a coffee maker or microwave. Commenters in the same thread had good multi-year experiences with Alpicool and other brands, one reported a different brand quit cooling within a year, and one said fridges “fail often in trucks” because of constant shaking and recommended an extended warranty from the store (thread). In another r/Truckers thread on portable coolers, a driver said they strapped a BougeRV 12V fridge to the passenger seat of a flattop truck, ran it at 35°F around the clock for four weeks, and found it quiet and effective; other commenters said truck-stop coolers are overpriced and that thermoelectric coolers don’t freeze (thread). Reddit blocked direct fetches from our tools, so we read these via search-result excerpts, not the full threads.

Reviewers: A van-life reviewer found it quiet and energy-frugal, but said that after she lowered the setpoint she couldn’t tell whether the compressor responded, and she wouldn’t rely on it as a freezer without testing (Outdoors Y Nomad, March 2023). A camping blogger’s unit stopped cooling about three months after its two-year warranty ended; BougeRV had them run a test, then offered a discount code on a replacement (Interpool Reviews, Aug 2025 update).

Cons

  • Durability is the open question. Reports range from a unit still running after about three years of near-constant use (r/Truckers) to one that stopped cooling around year two (Interpool). That is anecdote, not a failure rate.
  • Freezer use is less certain. Set it up and test it with something cheap before trusting it with a week of frozen meals.
  • It can drain a battery. BougeRV offers 3-stage battery protection, but a compressor fridge on a parked truck is still a load. Know your cutoff setting and your batteries.
  • Plastic housing and weight. A reviewer noted the plastic body and wanted outer handles.
  • Promo pricing. The sale price may not last.
  • Model confusion. Multiple 30-quart variants exist; check the exact name and SKU.

Who should skip it

Skip it if you need more than a few days of food in one trip (look at the 42- or 50-quart class), if you want dual temperature zones, or if you can’t spare passenger-seat or bunk floor space. Skip it too if you want a fridge you can leave plugged into a parked truck’s starter battery overnight without a plan for battery protection.

Alternatives

  • Alpicool C40 (35.7 L / 38 qt, single zone): $251.99 on Alpicool’s US store on 2026-10-02, with a 1-year whole-unit and 2-year compressor warranty (alpicool.com).
  • Alpicool CF45: Alpicool as a brand is the one r/Truckers commenters mention most (the threads rarely name the exact model). The official store only listed a refurbished CF45 ($179.99) on 2026-10-02, so check new availability.
  • BougeRV CRPRO 30QT: $219.99 on sale at BougeRV on 2026-10-02, with a storage box, interior light and tie-down points in the maker’s comparison.
  • Euhomy units came up on r/Truckers with mixed multi-year stories.

How we researched this

We read BougeRV’s and Alpicool’s own pages (specs, prices, rating figures), two r/Truckers threads (via excerpts), and three independent write-ups. We did not log into Amazon or scrape it, did not handle the unit, and did not copy any product photos. A few figures — Amazon ratings, forum model names — are second-hand and are labeled as such.
