Quick verdict
If you run your own truck, you may eventually chase a dead battery, a bad ground or a blown fuse. The Fluke 115 is a compact true-RMS multimeter built for tradespeople, with a CAT III 600 V rating, and it costs about $280. That is the catch: drivers on TruckersReport said any cheap meter is enough for basic troubleshooting. We list it as the premium option, not the default.

What drivers report
TruckersReport, “Whats a good voltmeter to get?” (Jul 2020) (thread):
- Drivers said any cheap meter, including a Harbor Freight one, is enough for basic troubleshooting.
- A temperature gun was suggested for checking batteries.
- The Fluke 115 was not recommended in that thread.
Fluke’s page showed a rating of 4.7 from 79 reviews on 2026-10-03 (self-run, not independent). We found no trucker-specific testing of this model.
Cons
- Price. About $280, versus the cheap meters drivers recommended.
- Overkill for basics. Reading battery voltage does not need this.
- Single-purpose. A meter does not fix anything by itself; you need to know how to use it and what your carrier allows you to repair.
- Older photo. The photo is a 2015 picture of the Fluke 115 with its holster, case and leads.
Who should skip it
Skip it if you only want to check battery voltage, if you work only under a carrier that does not let you repair equipment, or if you are on a tight budget.
Alternatives
- A budget meter: drivers in the 2020 thread said a cheap meter, including Harbor Freight, is fine for basics.
- A temperature gun: suggested in the same thread for checking batteries.
