Quick verdict
Your feet carry you through every pre-trip, fuel stop, dock walk and load check. The Thorogood American Heritage 804-4200 is a steel-toe, electrical-hazard-rated moc toe work boot that Thorogood says is made in the USA. One TruckersReport driver reported wearing Thorogoods for about four years with regular oiling. The catch: it costs around $275, steel toe is not required of every driver, and the boot is not waterproof or insulated.

What drivers report
TruckersReport, “Best work shoes/boots to wear” (Oct 2018) (thread):
- One driver wore Thorogood boots, holding up nicely, feet always dry, regular oiling helping, going on four years.
- Another planned to try Thorogood after Red Wings.
- Another wears American-made Danners.
- Another said there is no one-size-fits-all and to meet your employer’s minimum.
TruckersReport, “Which pair of work boots should I buy?” (Aug 2022) (thread): one driver likes the Thorogood Wellington pull-on with a composite toe, which is a different model from this one.
The posts above are from forum users, not tests. None of them named the 804-4200 specifically.
Cons
- Price. About $275 as of 2026-10-03.
- Steel toe. Heavier than a soft-toe shoe, and many drivers do not need a safety toe. Check what your carrier and customers require.
- Not waterproof. Rain and wet yards will get through unless you treat the leather.
- Not insulated. Thorogood lists it as unlined and uninsulated.
- Break-in and fit. We cannot comment on break-in; try boots on and check widths.
- Amazon variant. Our link is one size and color; the size you need may differ.
Who should skip it
Skip it if you do not need safety toes, if you need waterproof or insulated boots, or if you do not want to spend about $275.
Alternatives
- Thorogood Wellington pull-on, composite toe: named by one driver in 2022. A different model.
- Danner and Red Wing: brands named by drivers in the 2018 thread.
