Use the official book
Your written test is built from your state’s commercial driver’s handbook. Start with the CDL Manual Finder and download from the state government site. If a link is stale, search [your state] CDL manual on the DMV or licensing-agency site. Do not study a random PDF from a forum.

School questions worth asking
- Total cost, what is included, and what is financed.
- Whether job placement is a lead list or a real hire.
- Contract length if they “pay for training.”
- What happens if you fail a test or quit.
- Who provides the truck for the skills test.
If a number sounds like a guarantee — job, miles, or weekly pay — treat it as marketing until you can verify it in writing.
Medical card and eligibility
You will need a medical examiner’s certificate for most commercial driving. Rules on age, vision, and disqualifying conditions are not something a blog should certify. Check FMCSA medical guidance and your state DMV before you pay a deposit.
