What's a Good MPG for a Semi?
- Most modern semi trucks get 5.5–7.5 MPG under normal OTR conditions.
- Below 5.5 MPG: check tire pressure, alignment, and whether you're over-idling.
- Above 7 MPG: you're doing well — keep your speed under 65 and use cruise control.
- Loaded vs. empty makes a big difference. Empty runs often show better MPG.
- Engine condition, load weight, terrain, and weather all affect your number significantly.
